The Hive Planning and Courtyard Activation

JETT helped Signature Development Group develop a streetscape and placemaking Master Plan for the HIVE District, a unique mixed-use district in one of the liveliest up-and-coming neighborhoods in downtown Oakland. The mixed-use district is a LEED Neighborhood Design development due to its proximity to public transportation, the adaptive reuse of existing structures, and green building practices. Placemaking for this thriving district was a collaborative effort between the developer, architect(s), civil engineer, and JETT to weave landscape, infrastructure, and authentic Oaklandish moments into the public space. The outcome is a place that retains its historic context, celebrates the art community, and creates spaces for strolling, pop-up retail, outdoor dining, events, parklets, and even a flexible outdoor space to throw a football.
